Make a Big Difference Working Part Time As a CAREgiver

If you or someone you know is interested in a few extra hours a week of meaningful part time work, consider caregiving. It can make all the difference in the world to someone.

Caregiving is a growing field.  In the next 35 years the senior population is expected to double, and the need for caregivers is expected to grow with it.

There are many different kinds of caregivers.  Some are informal, such as family or friends that provide help to a loved one.  Others are paid caregivers who provide help on a professional basis.

To be a caregiver with Home Instead Senior Care, one must be trustworthy, reliable, dependable, and extremely patient.  Prior job experience is not mandatory, but does help.  However, the most important things we look for in potential caregivers are a warm friendly personality and a desire to help others.  To hear one of our caregivers talk about her experience working as a caregiver click here.

Caregiving is a unique job.  Our clients vary – some want full time help, and some want part time help (as little as a few hours per week).  The most typical tasks include housekeeping, meal preparation, escort to appointments & errands, medication reminding, and companionship.  For some clients, just a small amount of caregiving can make all the difference in the world.  Many people only require a few hours a week to help them continue living at home.

There are many ways to find work as a caregiver.  This can include word of mouth, checking online job boards, and inquiring with local vocational services.   Our Skokie office is constantly interviewing and screening applicants to work as CAREGivers in  Chicago and the north suburbs.
