Fall Events of the Morton Grove Historical Society...Save the Dates!

The Morton Grove Historical Society has a number of upcoming events to share with the community.  We hope you can attend these events and also plan a visit to the museum and education center with your family soon. Please add some or all of these events to your fall calendar!

Morton Grove Historical Society Indian Marker Tree Carving...Part One!

Morton Grove Historical Museum - 6148 Dempster Street, Morton Grove, IL 60053 Saturday, September 21 from 12 noon to 3pm. The Morton Grove Historical Society has commissioned artist Eric Widitz to carve a statue on site of a Potawatomi Native American from a saved 14 foot remnant of the Indian Marker Tree that used to be on Beckwith Road near the train.  With help and donations from many in the community, the Society saved this portion of the white oak tree for later use.  Come see the artist create the sculpture on site from 12 noon to 3pm on Saturday, September 21, 2013 (and complete the project on Saturday, September 28 from 9am to 12 noon).  All are welcome and donations to the project are welcome to help light the piece and install a plaque.

All are welcome and donations to the project are welcome to help light the piece and install a plaque.    

November is Native American Heritage Month!  

Morton Grove Historical Museum and Education Center Morton Grove Historical Museum - 6148 Dempster Street, Morton Grove, IL 60053 Sunday, November 3 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm  Join us for a dedication ceremony and open house in recognition of our Native American Past, as the Morton Grove Historical Society unveils the Potawatomi Eagle Dancer woodcarving plaque. Plan to tour the Haupt-Yehl House Museum, view exhibits, and join Museum staff in creating a variety of American Indian arts and crafts. Enjoy light refreshments and meet with special guests representing local American Indians today. This exhibit will run through the month of December in the Museum Education Center. Native American traveling history programs are available to groups by appointment year round.

Images of America Morton Grove Presentation - 

Morton Grove Public Library- Baxter Room, 6140 Lincoln Avenue, Morton Grove, IL 60053 Sunday, December 8 at 2 pm-3 pm. Mary Busch, the curator of the Morton Grove Historical Museum discusses the Morton Grove Historical Society’s newly published book- Images of America Morton Grove during Movies, Munchies & More at the Morton Grove Public Library’s Baxter Room. A sample of the over 200 images included in this book will be presented with historical information. Museum staff and members of the Historical Society will be available to answer questions following this presentation, as well as offering copies of the Images of America Morton Grove book for sale at $21.99. This publication makes a great holiday gift for your favorite Morton Grover!    

“Earth Tales From Around the World” Storytelling around the Campfire"
 Held at the Morton Grove Historical Museum Morton Grove Historical Museum - 6148 Dempster Street, Morton Grove, IL 60053 Friday, January 10 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm “Earth Tales from Around the World” by Michael J. Caduto will be featured as we gather around a campfire with friends and neighbors on a cold winter night.  Join us on the Museum grounds in Harrer Park, as special guests read stories drawn from more than forty countries around the world. Michael J. Caduto is an internationally known storyteller, ecologist, educator, and musician. Local storytellers will honor Caduto’s work and represent some of the diverse cultures we enjoy in the village of Morton Grove.   

Valentine’s Exhibit and Holiday Tea - 

Morton Grove Historical Museum - 6148 Dempster Street, Morton Grove, IL 60053 Sunday, February 9, 2014 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm Join the Morton Grove Historical Society for an old-fashioned tea party. Tea-time treats will be served by Historical Society members. Men and women, children and adults are all welcome. Reservations are required, with a maximum of 30 participants. A donation to the Morton Grove Historical Society in the amount of $10 for adults and $5 for children accompanied by an adult is recommended. Valentine themed exhibits will be open for viewing, prepared by Morton Grove Park District Museum staff.

Wednesdays, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
or by appointment.School and Community groups are invited to call the Museum and arrange a group tour available by appointment.

Admission to the Museum is free.
