A new computer workshop series at MGPL

The Morton Grove Public Library has created a series of new workshops covering a variety useful web tools. These free online tools can help businesses, nonprofits, groups and individuals get organized, collaborate with others, and connect with their audience.

Hands-on Workshop: How to Create a Facebook Page
Saturday, Sept. 10, 10 a.m.: reg. opens 8/27, 9 a.m.
Thursday, Oct. 20, 7 p.m.: registration opens 10/6, 9 a.m.

Businesses, groups and organizations can promote themselves and connect with fans using Facebook pages. In this hands-on workshop you will learn how to set up and administer a Facebook page and create engaging content

Lecture/Demo: Get Organized with Google Tools
Monday, Sept. 12, 7 p.m.: reg. required

Use Google to manage your schedule; create and share documents and more. This lecture/demo will give an overview of free Google apps that can help you get organized.

Hands-on Workshop: Online Resources for Business Needs
Monday, Sept. 26, 7 p.m.: reg. opens 9/12, 9 a.m.

There are many free online resources for startups or existing businesses, from the local to the federal level. This hands-on workshop will give an overview of Library resources and websites that will help with your business needs.


Hands-on Workshop: Creating Documents with Google Docs
Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2 p.m.: reg. opens 9/13, 9 a.m.
Saturday, Oct. 15, 10 a.m.: registration opens 10/1, 9 a.m.

Google Docs is a free web-based application that allows you to create word processing documents similar to Microsoft Word. Attendees will set up an account and learn how to create, edit and share documents.

Lecture/Demo: Social Networking for Businesses
Monday, Oct. 10, 7 p.m.: reg. required

From Facebook to Twitter to Foursquare, social networks play an important role in today’s businesses. This lecture/demo will discuss tactics and tips you can use to develop your business online.

Hands-on Workshop: Creating a Website with Google Sites
Wednesday, Oct. 26, 7 p.m.: reg. opens 10/12, 9 a.m.

Google Sites is an easy and free way to create a basic website. Attendees in this advanced level workshop will learn the basic features and create practice webpages.
