25-Year-Old Twins Died Of Possible Drug Overdose, Coroner Says

The twins had ties to Morton Grove, where a wake was held Tuesday; the funeral Mass is at St. John Brebeuf Church, Niles, Wednesday.

Eugene R. and John P. Meek, 25-year-old twins who lived in Lake Villa but had grandparents in Morton Grove, were found deceased Thursday in their Lake Villa home after police were called to make a well-being check, according to the Lake County News-Sun.

A wake for both brothers was held Tuesday at Simkins Funeral Home in Morton Grove. A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. John Brebeuf Church, Niles.

The twins' father, Bill Meek, grew up in Morton Grove, and his parents (the twins' grandparents) still live in town, said Michael Simkins, a funeral director at Simkins Funeral Home.

Bill Meek attended Notre Dame College Prep in Niles, Simkins added.

John Meek wrote an entry on his Facebook page June 18 which said "I'm so very grateful and truly blessed to have such an enormously warm-hearted family backing everything I do," followed by individual tributes to his father and to his mother, Tina.

Police said drug paraphernalia was found inside the brothers' home, according to the News-Sun. An accidental drug overdose was likely responsible for their deaths, the Chicago Tribune reported Lake County Coroner Thomas Rudd as saying.

However, Orlando Portillo, chief deputy coroner, told Patch.com the toxicology reports will not be final for six to eight weeks.
