$1,267 Taken Via Stolen Debit Card

The card was swiped several times at two different stores.

A 24-year-old Vernon Hills man told police that someone had used his debit card six times at a grocery store in the 8200 block of Golf Road, Niles, removing a total of about $512 from his bank account.

The offender then went to a grocery in the 8700 block of Dempster, Niles, and used the debit card for seven transactions, which drained about $755 from the victim's account, for a total of $1,267. The incidents occurred on Saturday. The victim said he lost his debit card the previous day, and called the bank Saturday, but the card had already been used.

A 34-year-old Des Plaines man reported Tuesday that he had last used his iPhone while sitting on a bench near a high school in the 7600 block of Dempster, Niles, and that it was either lost or stolen. He tried to locate it, but it was turned off.
