15-Year-Old Strikes Police Officer

He had left home overnight, and yelled at his mother.

A 15-year-old boy who lives in the 7700 block of Nordica, Niles, was involved in an aggravated battery on Saturday, July 16 at 3:35 a.m. after police responded to a domestic dispute between him and his 33-year-old mother.

He had taken off when police arrived, but officers found him after a foot chase. When caught, the juvenile yelled at his mother and used profanity, threatening to burn the house down.

The mother stated her son had fled the house without permission the previous night around 11 p.m., and didn't return until 3:30 am Saturday, threatening to break the windows of the house. The juvenile's mother called her own mother to see if the boy could go there, but the grandmother said no.

Police escorted the boy to his bedroom, but the boy began yelling profanity at the officer while in a face to face stance. Then he knocked the officer in the chest, with two open palms, hard enough to push the officer back and off balance.

Police took the juvenile into custody. At 4:30 a.m., Cook County Juvenile Screening found the case didn't merit taking the juvenile to Cook County Juvenile Detention, but arranged for him to be taken in by the Manuel Saura Center, 2732 N. Kedzie, Chicago. He had a court date at 1100 S. Hamilton, Chicago, on July 18.
