22-Year-Old Cited For Cannabis

Police conducted a search of his vehicle.

Joseph Kalady, 22, of North Meade Avenue, Chicago, received a police ticket for possession of cannabis after Niles police pulled over his vehicle for a traffic stop at about 2 a.m. Saturday in the 7100 block of Milwaukee Ave., Niles.

Police noticed the odor of cannabis coming from the passenger side of the vehicle, and, after learning Kalady, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, was the vehicle's owner, secured permission to search the vehicle. They found a "blunt roach" in the console, and Kalady said it was his. It weighed about half a gram and field-tested positive for cannabis.

Denise Desario, 50, of Park Ridge, was charged with DUI/alcohol, child endangerment and resisting a peace officer after police stopped her in the 8000 block of Oakton Street, Niles, Saturday just before 1 a.m. for driving 51 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Desario had her daughter in the car, and explained she had just picked her up from a friend's house. Police observed the odor of alcohol, and Desario said she had had about five drinks that night. She refused to do field sobriety tests, and when police told her she was under arrest, she resisted, struggled and yelled to her daughter to call her grandfather. In the struggle, the handcuffs cut her wrist and she began to bleed. Niles Fire Department paramedics arrived to treat her cuts and okayed her to go to the police station for processing. Police released the daughter and Desario's vehicle to her husband when he arrived on scene. Her court date is April 14 in the Skokie branch of the Cook County court.
