$25,000 Of Diamond Rings Taken

Victim removed them while at a tanning salon.

A woman took off her two diamond rings while she was tanning at a tanning salon in the 5600 block of Touhy, Niles, on Saturday Feb. 26 at about 2 p.m. Around 5 p.m., she realized her jewelry was missing and returned to the salon, but the rings were gone. Employees said no one had turned them in. The wedding band, which had diamonds on a platinum band, was worth $8,000. The engagement ring, which had several diamonds, was worth $17,000.

Man ticketed for cannabis possession

After conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle Saturday at about 10 p.m., police noticed an odor of burnt marijuana and observed a metal grinder, which is often used to grind fresh cannabis, in the seat pocket of the rear passenger compartment. The police officer opened it and found approximately one gram of cannabis inside. A 20-year-old in the vehicle indicated the items were his, and police ticketed him with municipal ordinance violations for possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.
