The homeowner confronted them, but they already had the jewelry, police said.

During a home invasion and burglary Tuesday, three burglars made off with what police described as a "large amount" of jewelry. WGN-TV is reporting it as $18,000 worth of jewelry.

Morton Grove Police Department officers responded to the burglary, just before 3 p.m., in the 7800 block of Long.  A resident of the home reported he had been in the basement, heard noises and went upstairs to check.

He saw three men wearing masks, confronted them, and they fled, according to police. The homeowner was not harmed or injured, and no weapons were displayed.
