Man, 39, Dies, Found In Car A Day Later

Update: Mount Prospect police provided information that the man was found by his fiancee at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, April 12. 

A Mount Prospect man never to made it to work in Evanston Wednesday night, and was found Thursday deceased in his car, of heart-related causes, in the parking lot of a Niles retail store.

After the man's girlfriend learned he never made it to work, she filed a missing person's report with Mount Prospect police, according to Niles police.

The man, Richard E. Russell, 39, had told his girlfriend he planned to stop at a Niles store before heading to work in Evanston, according to a Niles police report. He left home at about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, was spotted on surveillance tape entering the Niles store, in the 8500 block of Golf Road, at 9:39 p.m. and leaving at 10:09 p.m., police said.

The girlfriend went to retrace Russell's steps and drove to the Niles store Thursday, where she found his car in the parking lot with him inside. When Niles police and Niles Fire Department paramedics arrived, Thursday, he was already deceased. 

Police said Russell's doctor told them he suffered from a variety of medical issues, and the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said Friday at 2:25 p.m. Russell died of hypertensive cardiovascular disease, and that he may have had a heart attack.

Police said the surveillance tapes did not show anyone coming near the car when Russell was in it, so they did not suspect foul play.

This is the second sudden death of a person in their 30s in Niles this week. On Tuesday evening, suffered a medical incident in the pool area and died.
