$40,000 Worth Of Cell Phones Taken

Police found pry marks and pry tool.

When police responded to a burglar alarm at a business in the 5600 block of Howard Street, Niles, they found the front door open with signs of forced entry, including pry marks around the lock and a pry bar on the floor.

Police observed store displays knocked over with open drawers and cell phones lying on the floor. The owner came to the scene and estimated the value of cell phones and other items taken to be $30,000 to $40,000.

A mother and her two children had been staying at a motel in the 7200 block of Waukegan Road, Niles, for a few days because of domestic problems with the woman’s husband. While at the motel, the 14-year-old son said he wanted to go home to play his video games, but the mother refused. He began yelling and making threats to his mother. Niles Fire Department personnel took the victim to a hospital for a psychological evaluation. The mother said he has Asperger’s syndrome, often considered a form of autism.
