70-Inch TV Bought With ID Theft

David Evans, 47, of South Winchester Ave., Chicago, was charaged with felony identity theft, felony forgery and obstruction of justice on Tuesday just after 6 p.m. when a security agent for a store at Golf Mill Shopping Center stated Evans had just bought a TV by applying for a credit card with a fraudulent driver's license, according to police.

Police said they learned from the security agent and a sales clerk that Evans had earlier tried to open a store credit card with a fraudulent Wisconsin driver's license and social security number and a Naperville address that is the real address of the victim. Evans then purchased the 70-inch TV and a $200 gift card for a total transaction value of $2,320.35, according to the report.

Police spoke to the victim, who said he did not give anyone permission to use his name, information or credit cards, and does not know the offender. Police inventoried the credit application, phony driver's license and  a disc of the security video.

Evans' court date is Feb. 21 in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.

Purse, police badge stolen from locked vehicle

A 35-year-old Chicago woman reported Tuesday just before 9 p.m. that she had parked her Jeep SUV in a parking lot in the 9200 block of Milwaukee Avenue and when she returned, found someone had forcibly entered and removed her purse, police said. According to the report, it contained a suburban police ID card and badge, credit cards, a driver's license, a mobile phone and cash. She told police she had hidden it well in the rear sear, police said. She will try to locate the serial number of the mobile phone. Police are investigating.
