78-Year-Old Struck Caregiver, 26, In Nursing Home Battery, Police Say

On June 17, a 26-year-old caregiver who works at a nursing home in the 6600 block of Milwaukee Avenue told police that while she was caring for her patient, who lives at the nursing home, when the patient's 78-year-old sister entered the room. The caregiver told police she had had previous confrontations with the sister over how the patient was being cared for, according to the report.

As the caregiver and another nurse were adjusting the patient's position in bed, the sister told the caregiver she was doing it wrong and shoved her so that she fell backward, according to the report, and then began throwing pillows and other objects at her.

Police spoke with the sister, who denied the incident had occurred, the report indicated. Nursing home administrators said they would limit the sister's visits to one hour and keep her separated from the caregiver. The caregiver requested a followup and said she may want to pursue complaints.
