$8,400 Gone In Suspected Identity Theft

Woman later realized she shouldn't have responded to email.

A Niles woman, age 54, reported a theft from her 58-year-old husband's business checking account.

The woman said that last August, she received an email from what she thought was a bank, and she responded and provided the full names, dates of birth, social security numbers, addresses and mothers' maiden names of both herself and her husband. She later realized it was a mistake to supply this information, she told police.

On April 16, the woman noticed two withdrawals, totaling $8,400, that neither she nor her husband had authorized. The withdrawals were made at banks in North Hollywood and LaJolla, Calif.
