A Burglar Locks Up the Dogs, Takes Nothing, and Other Odd Crimes

Out weekly look at unusual crimes in our Patch region.

Local police departments provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt.

A Wilmette resident told police that someone had been leaving dog feces with attached notes on her porch, on the parked cars off the alley and hanging it from their mailbox.

Niles police stopped a Chicago man from driving away from the scene of six-car accident because they said his car had extensive front-end damage. The driver told them he might have hit a pole, police said, then said he might have hit a big garbage can. He was charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.

A Northbrook resident left her house for a few hours and returned to find her dogs locked in a room upstairs during an apparent burglary attempt. A kitchen window lock was found damaged, but nothing appeared to be missing or disturbed.

Someone took $30-$40 in coins from the soda machine at a Northbrook driving range.

A man said he’d been assaulted by another man following a car crash in Skokie. The men had been arguing after the crash, when one of them threatened to "cut his head off," police said.
