After $662 Theft, Cops Find Suspect Heroin

Man charged after hiding 29 boxes of cigarettes in his clothing. Arrest information is supplied by the Niles Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

 

Jason Galli, 35, of Park Ridge was charged with retail theft, a Class 3 felony; possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony, and possession of a narcotic instrument after an incident Feb. 3 just after 6:30 a.m. at a grocery store in the 7900 block of Milwaukee Avenue.

A security agent for the store saw Galli taking cigarette boxes from a display, hiding them under his jacket and then leaving the store without paying, according to police. The agent went to stop Galli, he tried to flee and the agent restrained him until police arrived, the report said.

As police searched Galli's clothing, they found 29 boxes of cigarettes, three hypodermic needles, a metal lid containing suspect heroin and 13 plastic bags containing trace amounts of suspect heroin, police said. The cigarettes' value was $661.85. Galli's court date is Feb. 21 in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.

A 42-year-old Park Ridge man left some personal items in a locked locker at a fitness club in the 9200 block of Milwaukee Avenue, and someone removed them on Feb. 6, according to a police report. His cell phone, pants, sweatshirt and $300 cash were missing.
