After Shoving Woman, Damaging Car, Man Charged With DUI

The woman had a cut on her lip and the man admitted kicking a car and causing a dent. An arrest is merely an accusation and does not indicate a conviction.

Lee J. Lee, 21, of Buffalo Grove, was charged with DUI Nov. 16 just before 11 p.m. Officers responded to a parking lot in the 9300 block of Milwaukee Avenue for a report of an intoxicated person damaging another person's vehicle by kicking it.

Lee told the officer he had kicked the vehicle, was sorry for what he had done, and wanted to pay for the damage, according to the report; police said Lee had the odor of alcohol on his breath, spoke in a slurred manner and had trouble standing unsupported.

Witnesses said Lee and a woman, later identified as a 21-year-old from Niles, had been physically fighting, and police said the woman had a fresh, bleeding cut on her lip. The woman said she and Lee had been arguing, according to police, but was evasive about the injury. Police handcuffed Lee as they investigated, and seated him in a squad car. Three witnesses and the female victim gave similar accounts of Lee and the female victim getting out of a car, the report indicated, throwing keys at each other and physically fighting, with Lee pushing and shoving the woman.

At one point, Lee kicked a vehicle in frustration, and the owner, a 25-year-old Northbrook woman, accepted his offer to make restitution and did not wish to pursue a criminal complaint.

Police interviewed Lee and the woman he had been fighting with separately, and each indicated their relationship was just friends; not a dating relationship, which would have possibly been a basis for a domestic dispute, police said. They did not want to pursue charges against each other.

Witnesses said that when Lee and the woman, who police said appeared to have been drinking, were arguing, she got into a car and drove around the parking lot, almost striking other pedestrians. The woman denied this, and did not cooperate with questioning; Lee said she did not drive at any point and that he was the one driving, according to the report.

Police said Lee showed impairment on field sobriety tests, and that there was a bottle of Johnny Walker Black whiskey in the passenger compartment with only one quarter of its contents remaining.

His court date is Dec. 3.
