After Theft, Police Find Drugs On Woman Too

Police said there was a substance in her purse and drug paraphernalia in a store dressing room. An arrest is merely an accusation, not evidence of a conviction.

Kristina Garcia, 25, of Glendale Heights, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony; possession of drug paraphernalia and retail theft after an incident June 8 at about 1:45 p.m. Police said they learned from security agents at a Golf Mill Shopping Center store that she had gone into a dressing room and concealed body lotion valued at $40, then exited the store without paying. After police detained her, they said they found in her bag a metal tin, of the type in which breath mints are sold, containing a crystal-like substance. Police said the security agent also turned over to them a glass pipe, of the type commonly used for smoking narcotics, which the agent said she found in the dressing room after Garcia exited it. The agent indicated it belonged to Garcia, police said, because the agent had checked the dressing room before Garcia entered, and found it empty.

A 31-year-old Glen Ellyn man was walking up to his parked vehicle in the 8600 block of Shermer, Niles, on June 9 about 9:45 a.m. and noticed that someone had placed a street sign for the intersection of Dempster and Shermer on top of his Honda van's roof. Police said there was no damage to his vehicle, and that he thought it was just local kids being funny.

Police removed the sign from his car roof, but noticed the street pole that had held the sign was damaged, with a metal clamp broken into two pieces. Police took it to Niles Public Services for repair.
