Angry Man Batters Girlfriend, Tries To Attack Police

They have a young son together.

Gustavo Cordero, 21, of Niles was charged with domestic battery and resisting a peace officer at the apartment he shares with his 17-year-old girlfriend in the 8800 block of Root Street, Niles, on June 16 at about 12:50 a.m.

When Niles police responded to a report of domestic violence in progress, the 17-year-old victim’s mother opened the door. The victim told police Cordero, with whom she lives and has a son, had pulled her hair, hit her and thrown her to the floor.

Police told Cordero, who was standing in a doorway to a bedroom, to come into the living room to speak with them and he refused. A police officer began to approach him and he walked toward the living room. When a police officer directed him to sit on the living room sofa, he refused and tried to throw a punch at the officer, but two other officers intercepted the swing. Cordero kicked and flailed his arms as they tried to put handcuffs on him and police used a Taser on him and handcuffed him.  Police policy requires Tasered individuals to be taken to a hospital, and they did so.
