Ballet Burglary, Pinched Pokemon Cards and Other Odd Police News

A look at unusual crimes in our Patch region.

Local police departments provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt.

A ballet bag containing ballet shoes, a leotard and a skirt was stolen from an unlocked car in Wilmette

Police responded to a Des Plaines store where a woman had been stopped by store employees after she allegedly attempted to leave with a stolen bottle of vodka in her purse. When a store employee asked her if she took anything, according to the report, she took a bag of pistachios from her purse and said she took them. When police asked if she took anything else, according to the report, she said no.

Police then looked in her purse and found a bottle of vodka. When police asked if she stole the vodka, she said yes, according to the report.

Someone siphoned approximately 211 gallons of diesel fuel from the underground tank of a Northbrook gas station. The loss was estimated at $812.

Niles police officers found a white Chevrolet Impala resting against a traffic signal pole, with severe damage to its front end, both airbags deployed and the horn blowing continuously, according to the police report.

The officers located the driver in a nearby Dunkin Donuts. The driver allegedly said he had fallen asleep while driving. Police said they smelled alcohol on the driver’s breath and that he showed signs of impairment on field sobriety tests, according to the report.

A Northbrook man was arrested and charged with harassment by telephone after he allegedly called Northbrook Village Hall and left several extended messages, according to police. Police had warned him in the past to have no further contact with Village Hall unless it was for legitimate purposes.

Police responded to a report of a theft at a Des Plaines store after a man was observed allegedly concealing various items in his pockets. Items taken included: a 12 oz. bottle of Tropicana Orange Juice, a pack of Joe Boxer socks, three packages of styluses and one pack of Pokémon cards.

When you're driving drunk & you total your car, don't go to Dunkin Donuts and drink coffee. Go to nearest bar and have several "booze" drinks. That way you can always claim you got drunk AFTER the accident b'cuz you were upset about what just happened.

Although reading about these incidents provides interest, I can't say the same for the cutesy headers which seem to jeer at the people who commit the crimes. Their antics may make us laugh, but the sarcastic headers just fall flat, what can I say?
