Battery at Library, Stolen Car, More in Friday Blotter

The following arrest information was supplied by the Des Plaines Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The Des Plaines Police Department provided the following reports.


A patron sitting in the hallway of the first floor of the Des Plaines Public Library, 1501 E. Ellinwood St., reported another patron told him to mind his own business and punched him in the mouth after he asked the man to stop shouting on his cell phone at 3:11 p.m. on Dec. 26, police stated. The man was described as 45-55 years old, 6-foot 2-inches tall, 200 pounds, with a medium build, medium brown complexion, brown eyes, wearing dark clothing. He left the library in an unknown direction, police stated.


Vehicle Theft

A 2000 blue Honda Civic two-door coupe was reported stolen from a driveway on the 2100 block of S. Wolf Road sometime between 1 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. on Dec. 29, police stated.

Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor, Possession of Alcohol by a Minor

Simon M. Muller, 20, address unknown, was issued citations for minor consumption of alcohol and minor possession of alcohol after police responded to a report of an unwanted and intoxicated subject at Walgreen’s, 1858 E. Oakton St., between 6:16 p.m. and 6:20 p.m. on Dec. 28, police stated.

Police made contact with Muller on the 1500 block of S. River Road, according to the report, he matched the description and said he was at Walgreen’s. Policed stated Muller’s breath smelled like alcohol and his eyes were bloodshot and watery. Police found a 750-milliliter bottle of Graduate brand vodka in Muller’s backpack, according to the report, and they transported him to the police station. Muller was given a court date of Jan. 23 at Skokie courthouse.

If the man didn't open his mouth, he would have NOT been punched... People need to leave IRATE people alone, because you just never know what was going on in their head... That's why we have security, not crusaders... What if the irate guy was a BAD guy and had a gun on him and shot the guy that told him to keep it down? People need to mind their own business, because these days, just the smallest thing could get someone killed; as we never know who's who in the zoo.......

The DP library does have security, altho not trained ninjas. While it should have been the responsibility of the library staff and/or security to tell this out of control man "shouting" on his cell phone to keep it down, it is not out of the realm of reason for the average citizen to shush someone in of all places, the public library, without fear of bodily harm.
