Belligerent Fighter Shoves, Curses At, Spits At Police Officers, Commander

Incident started when he upended tables in a restaurant.

Christopher Fernandez, 22, was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting a peace officer after a fighting episode Friday, Oct. 21 at about 4:15 a.m. at a restaurant in the 6700 block of Touhy, Niles.

Police responded to a fight in progress and found Fernandez in the parking lot. According to officers, he had glassy eyes and had an odor of alcohol on his breath. He refused to speak to them. Inside the restaurant, a 22-year-old man who had also been in the fight told police he and Fernandez were sitting with friends in the restaurant when Fernandez became angry, started throwing food and upended a table, spilling food on the floor. When the victim tried to stop him, Fernandez struck him, cutting his left ear.

Police went back to talk to Fernandez, who swore at them and was verbally abusive. He tried to  punch the police commander in the chest and missed; he then rushed the commander, who side-stepped and brought Fernandez to the ground. More police arrived and they handcuffed Fernandez. He refused to get into the squad car, and when he eventually did, he kicked the rear window and swore.
