Man Charged After Black-And-Blue Girlfriend Accuses Him of Battery, Police Say

Also, a trailer was stolen from a company's parking lot. An arrest is merely an accusation, not evidence of a conviction.

Joseph Becker, 53, of Morris, Ill., was charged with domestic battery June 19 after his girlfriend, who lives in the 9700 block of Dee Road, Niles, said he had "head-butted" her in the face after they argued about finances, according to police. Officers met the female victim in the parking lot of a restaurant in the 9000 block of West Golf Road, and observed she had black and blue bruises on her right orbital area (eye area).

She told them the battery had occurred June 17, but that she didn't report it immediately because she wanted to sleep on it, the report indicated. The next night, around midnight of June 19, after additional arguments, she called police.

Police spotted Becker driving in his vehicle on Golf Road and stopped and interviewed him. He denied head-butting the girlfriend and said she had other problems, according to the report.

Police charged Becker due to the victim's statements and the physical bruises, the report indicated. His court date is July 23 in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts. Police gave both parties a copy of the domestic violence act and forwarded a copy of the report to Niles Family Services.

A business owner in the 6100 block of Howard Street reported June 19 that when he was doing a monthly trailer check of the firm's 15 trailers, which travel to various states, he found one missing, according to the report. Video surveillance showed that on May 19 at about 2:50 a.m., two men drive a white semi-truck onto the business' parking lot, get out, look at the trailers, load one onto the tractor and leave with it, the report indicated. The business was to make a copy of the surveillance video and furnish it to police, who entered the vehicle into the state theft database.
