Bounced Checks Prompt Arrest

Currency Exchange employee recognized man who had earlier presented two bad checks.

Jin Youn, 38, of Vernon Hills was charged with deceptive practice after he presented a check for $950 at Har-Mil Currency Exchange in the 7500 block of Milwaukee Avenue, Niles, on Dec. 20. He tried to cash the check, and filled out a new customer registration card. An employee remembered he had presented checks for $5,900 and $900 at the Oakton-Waukegan Currency Exchange, in the 8000 block of Waukegan Road, Niles, in the days prior. Both of those checks were returned for uncollected funds.

The owner of Har-Mil Currency Exchange called police while Youn was waiting at the cashier window, and police stopped him as he was leaving. Youn pointed out his vehicle with his one-year-old daughter in it, and police transported the baby in a child seat to the station and Youn was processed. He called a friend to come and take custody of the child. His court date is Dec. 29 in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.
