Man Punches Dad, Breaks Cheekbone, Police Say

Marian Majerczyk, 26, of Niles was charged with domestic battery after an incident Oct. 16 when police responded to his family's home on Octavia and found Majerczyk in the front yard with his hands in the air above his head. The officer asked, "where is the knife?" to which Majerczyk responded, "There is no knife," according to the police report.

The officer asked Majerczyk what his involvement was, and he responded, "I punched that old guy that I don't like in the head," according to the report. The officer took the offender into custody.

Police interviewed Majerczyk's mother, who told them that before the incident occurred, Majerczyk was making noise and banging on the floor while in his bedroom, the report indicated. The mother asked the father to tell the offender to keep the noise down, so the father went to the offender’s bedroom door and began knocking on it.

Majerczyk came out of the bedroom and punched his father, who fell to the floor and began bleeding, according to police. The offender’s 29-year-old brother later said he heard the commotion and came out of his room and saw his father lying on the floor bleeding, then spotted the offender at the end of the hall with a knife in his hands and said to him, "Don't do it," several times, according to the report.

The brother said the offender put the knife away in the kitchen and exited the residence, police said. The brother helped his father into the parents' bedroom, locked the door and called 911.

Police said the offender suffers from schizophrenia and the mother stated the offender had not taken his medication that day.

The father was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and the offender was taken to the Niles Police Station.

Doctors determined the father had suffered a fractured left cheek.

After conferring, the father, mother and brother said they did not want to have the offender charged and were going to seek legal counsel and try to get the offender medical help for his condition, according to the report. Police referred the case to Niles Family Service and photographed the father's injuries.

Majercyk's court date was Oct. 25 in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.
