Skokie police were still on scene at 7:30 p.m. Monday investigating the aftermath of the incident that happened near Main Street and St. Louis Avenue in Skokie, about 20 or 30 yards from John Middleton Elementary School.

The preliminary investigation suggests that a van traveling southbound on St. Louis Avenue attempting to turn eastbound on Main Street struck a sedan traveling eastbound on Main Street, police said.  After striking the sedan the driver lost control and struck Carter Vo on the northeast corner of Main Street and St. Louis Avenue.

The car continued moving until it struck another vehicle near the northwest corner of Main Street and St. Louis Avenue, police said.

Hours after the accident the boy's bicycle and a bright red hat were still lying on the ground. Those items would later be documented by the North Regional Major Crime Task Force, which is assisting the Skokie Police Department with their investigation.
