Cops: Man Broke Car Window to Steal Items, Charged With Felony

Kevin Slewo, 21, of Morton Grove was charged with two counts of Class 4 Felony Burglary to Vehicle June 10 just before 11 p.m. in the 8000 block of Lyons.

Police arrived at the scene after a witness called to say he thought an offender broke a car window and was going through the trunk of a vehicle. Police located an offender, Slewo, walking on Washington Street and matching the description given by the witness, according to the report.

Police ordered him to stop, but he did not, and police saw him drop a white bag. At the second order, he stopped, the report indicated. Police found women's costume jewelry, sunglasses, a battery charger, T-Mobile cell phone and change on him, they said. He told police the items belonged to his girlfriend.

Police said the white bag Slewo dropped was a UPS delivery bag addressed to a 51-year-old Niles woman and containing a necklace and a users manual for an indoor antenna.

The witness who made the call to police positively identified Slewo as the person he had seen breaking the car window, according to the report.

Police contacted the two female owners of the various items, and they identified them as being their property. Slewo's court date was June 13 in the Skokie branch of the Cook Count courts.
