Customer Threatens Salesperson By Text

The salesperson asked if she wanted a business opportunity, she told him no, he continued to text and she made a personal threat. An arrest is merely an accusation, not evidence of a conviction.

A 21-year-old Niles man came to the police station July 18 to say he had texted a potential customer to ask if she wanted to become involved in a business opportunty. She texted back "no." He repled and described the products he was offering for sale. She responded and said to stop spamming her, and he replied that he was not spamming, police said. According to the report, a heated exchange followed, in which the potential customer texted, "I know where you live. Next time I see you on the yellow line, I'll kick your a**." The salesperson said he is concerned about the safety of himself and his family, police said.

Police called the phone number and the woman who answered said she did not know about the exchange of texts. The salesperson provided more information to police about the potential customer, including her last name, and police told both parties not to have any further contact.

The Grandson Scam

An 82-year-old woman who lives in the 6800 block of Oakton reported July 19 she received a phone call from a man pretending to be her grandson saying he was in trouble in Canada and needed $2,000. The victim called family members and learned it was not her real grandson who had called. Police advised her this is a common scam, which should be ignored, and advised her to contact them if she received any more phone calls.
