Despondent Unemployed Man Threatens Suicide

Told workers he would take poison.

Employees at a trucking company in the 6200 block of Gross Point Road, Niles, said a man, who lives in Hainesville, came into the business Tuesday to inquire about a job application he had recently submitted.

While waiting for a response, the man told employees approximately four times that if he didn't get a job he would buy poison and kill himself. He told a responding police officer that he has been unemployed for a year and is very upset about it. He also told them he did not have money to buy food. He agreed to speak with a doctor, and the Niles Fire Department transported him to Resurrection Hospital.

A Niles resident in the 6900 block of Dobson reported to police that on Monday at about 10 a.m., a young white woman in her 20s knocked on his door and said she was the daughter of his neighbor. The victim did not even know whether his neighbor had a daughter. The young woman said her car had been in an accident and she needed $40 for a tow. The victim handed her two $20 bills, and she asked for an additional $20 in case the tow was more expensive. The victim gave it to her. She left and went into her car. Later, the victim discovered his neighbor does not have a daughter.
