D'oh! Nuts! Cops To Stand On Dunkin Donuts Roofs Friday A.M. For Charity

They'll collect donations for Illinois Special Olympics from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. What, you've got something better to do at 5 a.m.?

Yes, it's a stereotype. Everyone from "The Simpsons" to any late-night comic worth his cholesterol has poked fun at cops eating donuts.

You have to hand it to Niles police for being good-natured enough to send a copper up on the roof of the three Niles Dunkin Donuts shops, in the "Cop On Top" event, to collect money for charity.

The money they collect at Cop On Top day, along with the upcoming Illinois Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run,  benefits the Illinois Special Olympics.

Last year, law enforcement officers statewide raised $207,000 for this cause.

Everyone who visits the Cop on Top Rooftop Stakeout and makes a donation to the Torch Run will receive a free donut. People who donate at least $10 will also receive a Law Enforcement Torch Run Travel Mug and coupon for free coffee.

If you've got more questions (How many calories in a marble frosted donut? Does strawberry frosting count as a vegetable?  Do these donuts make me look fat?), call Sgt. Eric Lambrechts @ 847-588-6566 or Sgt. Ron Brandt @ 847-588-6563.
