Driver On Train Tracks Charged With DUI
Asked which way he was trying to turn, he responded, 'straight.' An arrest is merely an accusation, not evidence of a conviction.
Iurri Iachminskyi, 23, of West School Street, Chicago, was charged with DUI Nov. 5 just before 4 a.m. Just before 3:30 a.m., Niles police were investigating a single vehicle accident at the intersection of Howard Street and Lehigh. A black BMW X-5 was on top of the railroad tracks south of Howard Street, facing eastbound. Iachminskyi was standing outside the vehicle and had glassy eyes and an odor of alcohol on his breath, police said. When police asked him about the circumstances, he said, "I missed my turn," according to the report. When the officer asked him which direction he wanted to turn, Iachminskyi responded, "straight," police said.
The police report indicated Iachminskyi was leaving a birthday party at a friend's house, and said he told them he had had maybe three bottles of Heineken beer two hours before police spoke to him. Police said he showed signs of impairment during field sobriety tests. He was cited for disobeying a traffic control device, improper lane usage, driving on the sidewalk and failure to notify the Secretary of State of an address change. His court date is Nov. 28 in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.
