Motorcycle Stolen; Driver With Two Flat Tires Charged With Felony DUI

An arrest is merely an accusation, not evidence of a conviction.

The following is from Niles Police Department reports.

Omar Martinez-Acuna, 24, of West Arthur Street, Chicago, was charged with Class 4 felony DUI and driving without a valid driver's license Oct 26 just after 3 a.m. in the 6800 block of Touhy Avenue. Police observed his vehicle traveling westbound with its emergency lights on, and what sounded like a metal rim grinding on concrete, according to the report. Police stopped the vehicle for a well-being check, and the driver, Martinez-Acuna, got out of the vehicle and put his hands up in the air. Police told him to get back inside the car, which he did. Police noticed the odor of alcohol on his breath. He provided an insurance card, but said he didn't have a driver's license, the report indicated. Police found that both the passenger side front and rear tires were flat. He showed impairment on standard field sobriety tests, the report said. His court date is Dec. 6 at the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.

Motorcycle stolen

Niles police responded to the 6800 block of Milwaukee on Oct. 27 at about 4:15 p.m., where a 32-year-old Harwood Heights man said he had parked his 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle the previous day, at about 11 p.m., before walking to a bar a block away. When the victim left the bar, a friend gave him a ride home. When he returned Oct. 27, the motorcycle was gone. Police entered it into a state theft database.

In a criminal damage to vehicle case, Niles police officers responded Oct. 24 to a townhome in the 8700 block of Shermer, where the victim, a 45-year-old Niles man, said someone shattered the front passenger side window on the 2013 Honda minivan. The doors appeared to be still locked, and nothing appeared to be taken.
