An investigation into the drowning death of 4-year-old Vicente Cardenas is still active, police announced this afternoon. On Tuesday, police said the case had been closed.

The investigation into the death of 4-year-old Vicente Cardenas is still ongoing, Glenview Police said this afternoon.

When Patch spoke to Sgt. Dave Sostak Tuesday, he said the

A miscommunication within the Glenview Police Department lead to the error, Sostak said.

“As a matter of policy, the Glenview Police Department does not comment on open investigations,” public safety officials said in a press release Wednesday afternoon, clarifying the situation. “Further information will be released when the investigation is completed.”

Because the pool area at Roosevelt does not have cameras there is no available video footage of the minutes leading up to Vicente's drowning, Park District Executive Director Chuck Balling told Patch.

Many parents, including several who were at the pool the day of Vicente's drowning, expressed concerns in Patch's comments section regarding lack of video cameras

"Cameras would clearly show what happened," one parent wrote. "Glenview, why is there no camera???"

"We as tax payers of Glenview, the amount we pay, certainly should consider camera placed within the grounds of the swimming area, then we would have an answer right away of what happened," another parent, Becca, shared.

While the death investigation continues, has agreed to provide counseling sessions at no charge to pool patrons and community residents coping with the tragedy, Park District officials said this afternoon.
