Drunk Man Harasses Business, Kicks And Curses Cops, Police Say

He kicked an officer, police said, was charged with felony aggravated battery and other charges. An arrest is merely an accusation, not evidence of a conviction.

Arkadiusz Wojciechowski, 51, of Park Ridge, was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer, a Class 4 felony, as well as resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, criminal trespass and theft under $500 after an incident Nov. 1 at a store in the 8800 block of Milwaukee Avenue.

Niles police officers responded about 9 p.m. to the store for a report of a theft in progress, and the owner/victim, a 47-year-old Chicago man, told them Wojciechowski had come into the store drunk and was yelling at the victim, frightening customers and causing some to leave, according to the police report. The owner called Niles police, but Wojciechowski left before they arrived.

Wojciechowski returned about 7:45 p.m., again drunk and again yelling at the store owner and demanding money from him, and began walking around the store, the report indicated. As the victim was preparing to close the store, he realized he could not find the keys to the delivery truck, and ultimately found them in Wojciechowski's jacket pocket, police said. Wojciechowski attempted to leave, but the victim locked him inside the store and called police. When they arrived, he told them he feared Wojciechowski would try to drive the truck and possibly kill somebody. He said he wanted Wojciechowski off the premises.

Police placed Wojciechowski in handcuffs, but he resisted entering the squad car. When police put him inside, he was yellling, cursing, laying on his side  and kicked the door of the squad car twice, according to the report. Police said they smelled the odor of alcohol on Wojciechowski's breath. Upon arrival at the police station, the offender refused to get out of the car, resisted walking to the booking room and kicked an officer in the upper thigh, police said. Other officers attempted to quiet him, and when told he would go into a cell if he didn't cooperate with the fingerprinting procedure, he cooperated. His court date was Nov. 13 in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.
