DUI: Sparks Erupt As Car Drives Without Tires

The driver was charged with DUI. An arrest is merely an accusation and does not indicate a conviction.

Brian Hildreth of Niles was charged with DUI after an incident Sunday Aug. 26 just before 3 a.m. when a Niles police officer observed his vehicle heading south on Milwaukee Avenue with sparks and flames coming from the wheel area. Police said the vehicle had no tires and the sparks were coming from metal grinding on the roadway.

Police attempted to stop Hildreth, but they said he failed to stop, continuing to his home in the 6400 block of Riverview. As he exited his car, police said he had to hold onto the door for support. The officer observed that he had spilled some type of liquid on his shirt, and the officer also detected an odor of alcohol on his breath, according to the report.

When asked about his tire, Hildreth said he "hit a curb," police said. Hildreth showed impairment on field sobriety tests, according to the report,  and was charged with DUI.
