Fire Victim Dies of His Injuries A Day Later

The man was taken to the hospital in critical condition Friday after the noontime fire at a popular senior living facility.

After numerous area fire departments responded to an eighth-floor apartment fire Friday which left a man in critical condition, the man, Seymour B. Cohen, 91, died Saturday of his injuries.

When the fire occurred Friday, a witness responded to the call of smoke and entered Cohen's eighth-floor apartment at The Park at Golf Mill, a senior living facility at 8975 W. Golf Road. The witness saw Cohen had burn injuries on his arm and leg, Niles police said, called 911 and grabbed a fire extinguisher to attempt to put the fire out.

Police and fire units arrived at approximately 12:33 p.m. and discovered an active fire in room 808. They evacuated the building and the fire department upgraded the fire to a code 4, requesting assistance from North Maine, Glenview and Des Plaines Fire Departments. The fire was struck about 20 minutes later.

Niles Fire Department paramedics took Cohen to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, which transferred him to Loyola Medical Center Burn Unit in Maywood.

The fire scene was secured and turned over to a Niles fire investigator. The investigation into the cause of the fire is still continuing.

I was finding that we would get a lot of people guessing forRead More some restaurants (usually when there was a payoff of free pizza), and not very many people entering for other restaurants. Do you think we should bring them back? I'm open to people's opinions. --Pam

Hi Pam, Yes, I thought it would be great if we brought it back. For me personally, whenever I wouldRead More seed the contest on my Twitter timeline, I would immediately go to the site. And if there is an offer of free food even better. It does not even necessarily be a restaurant as it can also be any other type of business, i.e., bakery, retail, gym, car services, etc.
