Firefighters Respond To Smoke-Filled Apartment

A baby bottle was burning on the stove.

Niles police and firefighters responded to a report of smoke issuing from an apartment in the 8800 block of Root, Niles, on Saturday at about 6:50 p.m. Because no one was home, firefighters had to force entry into the apartment.

They discovered someone had left a baby bottle heating on the stove, and the plastic had begun to melt, causing smoke. There was no fire, and firefighters were able to air out the apartment. They were not able to reach the tenants, but the property owner advised he would secure the door firefighters had to break to get inside.
