Food Fight At Movies Ends In Battery Charge

Nilay Patel, 28, of Mount Prospect was charged with battery Dec. 23 at a movie theater in the 9100 block of Golf Road after theater employees notified police of a dispute.

A restaurant adjoins the theater, but the theater does not allow patrons to bring restaurant food into the theater. Patel tried to do just that, with a theater employee stopping him and explaining the policy, according to the police report. Patel argued with the employee and was asked to leave the theater, the report indicated.

Patel returned to the theater with containers concealed beneath his shirt, and the employee perceived them to be the same food containers; when the employee again turned Patel away, according to police, they got into an argument and Patel pushed the employee on the chest and neck with both hands, grabbed his shirt and told him he would be waiting for him outside to “take care of him.” Another employee had to physically separate them, and that employee told police Patel had become loud and angry with the victim, and pushed him several times, according to police.

Patel’s court date is Jan. 26 in the Skokie branch of the Cook county courts.
