Husband Claimed Wife Struck Him, Then Recanted

He said he wanted to scare her into thinking she'd be arrested.

Police responded to a domestic dispute Sunday in which the 49-year-old husband said his 48-year-old wife had struck him, causing his eye to bleed. He also said she threatened him with a knife.

When police arrived at the home in the 8100 block of Grace, Niles, around 12:10 a.m., the wife told them the two had been arguing about the husband's drinking, and that the husband had been sleeping. The husband then said he tripped and hit his head on furniture, and that he couldn't remember if she had threatened him with a knife or not. He told police he wanted to scare his wife into thinking she was going to be arrested. He agreed to go to a relative's home. Police issued a domestic violence form and made a referral to Niles Family Services.

A 47-year-old Des Plaines man reported that on Sept. 10, about 8:30 p.m., he was shopping for a computer at a Golf Road retail store, when another man approached him saying he worked at a Golf Mill Shopping Center store and could get him a computer and gaming system for $350. The shopper drove to that location, handed over $350 cash to the man who said he would provide the deal, and waited for an hour, when he finally approached a manager. The store's loss prevention department had video of the offender exiting the store through the merchandise pickup area.
