Man Charged in Threatening Wife With Knife

Woman flees to neighbor to call 911 for help.

Waldemar Dzierzanowski, 61, of Niles, was charged with domestic battery after he allegedly threatened his wife with a knife.

Police responded to a call from Dzierzanowski's wife, who ran to a neighbor's house in the 8200 block of Ozanam, about 11:30 p.m. June 4 because she said her husband had held a knife to her throat.

The woman, 57, told police she was in the kitchen when the couple got into an argument over relationship issues. She said Dzierzanowski put his hands around her neck in a choking manner and then held a kitchen knife to her face and neck. When she said she was going to call the police, he responded, "You are not going to go. I'll kill you."

The woman fled to a neighbor to call police because she doesn't have a phone in her house, according to the report. The responding officer didn't see any marks on her neck, but the woman told the officer she's afraid of her husband because of past physical abuse.

A Polish-speaking officer was called to the scene to interview the husband. When he was asked about threatening to choke his wife, Dzierzanowski hesitated, then denied the accusation. When asked if he held a knife to her neck, he gave no reply.
