Husband Kicked Wife, Who Went To Hospital, Police Say

An arrest is merely an accusation, not evidence of a conviction.

Rahim Matani, 33, of Niles was charged with domestic battery after police responded to a 9-1-1 hangup on Oct. 20 just after 5 p.m. A 32-year-old woman said he had kicked her as they were trying to leave for a party, according to the police report. She said she fell to the ground trying to get away from him (her husband), and scratched her knees, and that he had kicked her in the back. Police said they observed a mark on her back and scratch marks on her knees. Police asked the woman if she wanted to go to the hospital, and she said yes, the report indicated. Niles Fire Department paramedics took her to a hospital, and a family member arrived to stay with the two children. The husband's court date was Oct. 25 in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.

Man charged with DUI; was swerving lanes, police said

Michael Volk, 54, of Des Plaines was charged Oct. 23 at 1:40 a.m. with DUI after a police officer observed him driving in the 7200 block of Oakton at a high rate of speed, and crossing over the double white lines, according to the police report. The driver refused sobriety tests, but due to the fact an officer detected the odor of alcohol on his breath, he was arrested and taken to the Niles Police Station for processing. His court date is Nov. 15 at the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.
