Inhalant Abuse Suspected in 2 Emergency Calls

Women required transport to the hospital in separate incidents.

Niles Fire Department paramedics along with police responded to a call about 6 p.m. May 24 from the pharmacy section at a Golf Mill Shopping Center retail store. When first responders arrived, they found a 38-year-old woman passed out in the bathroom. She was laying on the ground next to a can of condensed computer keyboard cleaner, according to the police report. The woman was taken Advocate Lutheran General Hospital for treatment.

Rana Mendicino, 43, of West Chicago, was cited for the cost of emergency services after she was observed acting suspiciously in the parking lot of a retail store in the 8700 block of Dempster Street about 1:40 p.m. May 20. Police reported that she was allegedly "huffing," or inhaling, the contents from a can of unknown substance. They later found her passed out behind a Dumpster. Fire department paramedics took her to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital for treatment.
