Man, 36, Dies Suddenly After Shaking, Screaming

Police responded to a home in the 7500 block of Waukegan Road Nov. 14, just before 8 p.m., for a report of an unresponsive man. Niles Fire Department paramedics were performing life saving measures on the man, Marlon M. Gunnart, 36, but were unable to discern signs of life, and pronounced him dead, according to the police report.

Gunnart's children said he had left the house to go to work at about 8 a.m., returned around 4 p.m., ate a snack, and went to his room, as he often did, to take a nap. According to the report, his 14-year-old son said that his father was shaking in the bed and making noises as if he was screaming. He said that he could not wake his father up and they called 911 immediately.

The witnesses at the scene, including his 15-year-old daughter, stated that the victim had no known medical problems, and he had not been complaining of any health problems, police said. 

The victim’s ex-wife was contacted and arrived at the residence to take custody of her three children. Niles Family Services responded to the scene to assist the family. The victim's brother, Angola Bennett, was contacted and also arrived at the scene, saying the victim did not have any known medical or substance abuse problems, according to police. 

At the police department, the victim's girlfriend told police the victim did not have any health problems and had not complained of any health concerns, the report said. Police said there were no visible signs of trauma on the body; it was taken to the Cook County medical examiner's office and the house was sealed pending results of the autopsy. Police are investigating. 

Man charged with felony theft

Glenn O. Watkins, 33, of West Eddy Street, Chicago, was charged with Class 4 felony retail theft Nov. 18 after a security agent for a retail store observed him take a bottle of perfume worth $35 out of the store without paying, according to the report.  The Officer contacted Cook County assistant state's attorney Mary Hain, who approved felony charges. The offender was booked, processed and held for a bond hearing pending his court date.
