Man, 59, Found Dead On Floor

He had been basically living on the floor, as he didn't want to get up and his caregiver couldn't move him.

A 57-year-old Niles woman called police after finding Michael P. Baker, 59, lying unresponsive on the living room floor of his home in the 6900 block of Oakton Court, Niles, on Sept. 21.

The woman (complainant) had been feeding Baker, who suffered from a mental condition and was being cared for by Niles Family Services, while he was laying on the floor. He chose not to get up, and the complainant could not move him.

The woman told police she had given Baker a sandwich on Sept. 20, then she had gone to sleep, and when she woke up, discovered him unresponsive.

Police contacted the medical examiner's office. They found bed sores on Baker's back, some of which looked infected, but did not detect any other signs of trauma. Skaja Funeral Home transported Baker's body to the medical examiner's office.

A 19-year-old Niles man reported someone had forcibly entered his vehicle, on the 7600 block of Neva Avenue, Niles, and removed a radar detector valued at $400, on Sept. 22 at about 4:35 p.m. A witness saw a vehicle speed away from the scene.
