Man Arrested Twice In Two Days
He was charged with DUI, then with speeding more than 40 mph over the speed limit. In another incident, police helped a mom and son struggling with custody arrangements. An arrest is merely an accusation, not evidence of a conviction.
Andrew Galperin, 22, of Wilmette was charged with DUI on Jan. 16, released on an I-bond and, in a separate incident the next day, charged with speeding more than 40 mph over the speed limit.
In the first incident, which happened at about 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, police said an intoxicated Galperin accelerated a gray Subaru hatchback out of the driveway of a restaurant in the 9000 block of Milwaukee Avenue so fast that the car's traction system lost control and the car fishtailed. Galperin was trying to go northbound, but the car instead went into the southbound lanes of Milwaukee Avenue. The car then entered the 9026 Milwaukee Avenue parking lot by driving over a curb and sidewalk, then went to the rear of the business area. When police arrived, they said Galperin had already gotten out of the vehicle and told them "I'm done." When asked what happened, police said he replied, "I've been drinking," and when asked whether he knew he drove over a curb, he said, "Yeah, I know."

Police noticed the odor of alcohol on Galperin's breath and he showed impairment on field sobriety tests, according to the report. Police charged him with DUI and cited him for failure to yield from a private drive and improper lane usage. They booked and processed him and released him on an I-bond.

The following day, Thursday, at about 11:45 p.m., police said Galperin was driving about 76 mph eastbound on Touhy Avenue in a 35 mph zone.
His court date is Feb. 20 for the first incident and Feb. 21 for the second incident.
Boy doesn't want to return to dad's custody, according to report
Police said that a woman approached an officer Wednesday on Washington Street just before 11:30 a.m., saying her son, named Elijah, had run away from her on the street because he did not want to board a scheduled flight to return to his father in California. She said the son was with her for the Christmas break but was required to return to his father per the terms of the parents' divorce.
Police located the son at the intersection of Park and Washington. They said he was agitated and crying and told them he didn't want to go back to his father because he feels lonely and depressed while away from his mother. Police talked to him and he agreed to be driven to the airport by his mother without further protest.
