Man Breaks Into Garage, Says He Wanted To Sleep, Charged With Burglary
An arrest is merely an accusation, not evidence of a conviction.
Marek Czarnecki, 49, of West Grand Avenue, Chicago, was charged with Class 4 felony burglary Nov. 17 just before 1 a.m. Police responded to a home in the 8400 block of Crain where residents had been woken by their alarm system, and told police there was someone in the garage. The offender yelled "I give up" and began running, but slipped on the wet grass and police apprehended him. They found a screw driver in his pocket, and many of the power tools in the garage had been taken out of their cases and stacked near the service door. As police led Czarnecki away, he called to his victims in Polish, and they translated that he said he had only wanted to sleep in the garage. Police found Czarnecki's vehicle nearby.

When asked if had had anything to drink, Binder said he had gone to a bar and drunk about six Bud Light beers. Police said he had to steady himself on the side of his vehicle, and had the odor of alcohol on his breath. His court date is Dec. 6 in Skokie.
