Man Catches Driver Who Ran From Crash Scene
And in another incident, three people jumped a man, beat him and painted his face and teeth in gang colors. An arrest is merely an accusation, not evidence of a conviction.
Martin Villanueva, 40, of West Rascher Avenue, Chicago, was charged with DUI and leaving the scene of a crash Nov. 28 just before 11 p.m. Police responded to the intersection of Touhy and Milwaukee for a vehicle crash. One of the cars in the crash left the scene and pulled into a nearby parking lot; then the driver and passenger started running eastbound on Touhy, according to the police report.
A witness ran after the men and detained the driver, Villanueva, until police arrived, according to the report. Police said they detected the odor of alcohol on Vllanueva's breath, he admitted to drinking two beers and that he showed impairment on field sobriety tests. Niles Fire Department paramedics checked him for injuries and released him from their care.

Villanueva was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, no proof of insurance, failure to yield turning left, improper use of registration and failure to obtain an Illinois license. His court date is Dec. 12 in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.

On Nov. 24 just after 5:30 a.m., a 20-year-old Palatine man told police he was walking near a friend's house in the area of Cumberland and Oak when three people he did not know approached him and questioned him about what gang he was in, according to police. He told them he didn't gang bang, and they claimed to be in a gang, according to the report.
He continued walking and the three jumped him from behind, hustled him into an apartment building hallway, beat him about the head and body and hit him on the head with a brick, according to police.
The Palatine man also told police the two male offenders held him down while the female offender painted the right side of his face black and the left side red, according to the report; she also painted his front teeth in the same colors and added a silver dot on his forehead and a possible gang symbol on his right hand.
The victim told police he passed out from the beating, and when he woke up the offenders were gone. He called his mother, who took him to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. Police are investigating.
