Man Claims Blood On Girlfriend Is Strawberry Frosting

He was charged with two crimes in one evening; after he allegedly pushed his girlfriend down, she started bleeding, according to police. Arrest information is supplied by the Niles Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Jose Bellido, 53, of Morton Grove was charged with two crimes, a DUI Saturday evening just before 7:30 p.m. and domestic battery Sunday at 4 a.m.

Police responded to the domestic battery after a neighbor in his girlfriend's condo building in the 9000 block of Terrace Drive called police to say someone was screaming.

When police arrived, they heard a female voice crying "Please help me!" Officers noted what looked like fresh droplets of blood on the floor of the kitchen, living room and bedroom, they said. The woman, identified as Bellido's girlfriend, was crying and said the couple had argued. According to the report, she also told police she had been drinking earlier in the evening at a retirement party.

Police said she had fresh, bleeding lacerations on her right leg and both elbows, and she told them these were caused by falling on some furniture. The officers observed broken pieces of a ceramic vase on the floor. When police asked her whether Bellido had been physically violent that evening, she did not answer, they said.

Niles Fire Department paramedics arrived, but the woman did not want to be taken to a hospital. Police gave her a copy of the Illinois Domestic Violence Act.

Police interviewed Bellido, who they said told them his girlfriend had entertained guests earlier that evening and that when he arrived home after being booked for DUI, he discovered they had drunk all his tequila. He became enraged and confronted her, and during the ensuing argument, he told police he had pushed her, causing her to fall, the report said.

When officers told him there was blood on the victim's leg and elbows and on the floor, he told them it was strawberry frosting from cake.

After being taken to Niles Police Station for booking, he complained of shortness of breath and was taken to Resurrection Hospital, where he was treated. His court date for the domestic battery charge is today, Dec. 16, in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.

Charged with DUI; 'just arrest me'

Bellido had been charged earlier in the evening with DUI after police saw him standing next to his parked, running vehicle in the 6500 block of Howard Street, Niles. He attempted to drive away, but police activated their emergency lights and pulled him over.

Police said they detected an odor of alcohol on Bellido's breath, and that he had trouble speaking coherently. He had trouble locating his driver's license, but when he did, he mumbled, "just arrest me," according to the report, which also said Bellido acknowledged drinking three beers. Three empty beer bottles were found on the floor of his vehicle, police said. Bellido became belligerent while being transported to the Niles Police Station, the report said. He was also cited for improper parking on a roadway. His court date for the DUI charge is Jan. 26.
