Man Injured By Train In Morton Grove Identified

The man was seriously injured last Saturday; the train may have rolled over his arm.

A man injured by a train Saturday, Nov. 16 at the Morton Grove train station has been identified by Metra as Miguel Flores, 51, of Mexico.

Metra spokesperson Meg Reile said Metra representatives were able to interview Flores through a translator at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital during the week. He told them he was running on the train platform to catch the outbound train and, because it was raining and slippery, he slipped and "fell into" the train.

Flores listed his hometown as Mexico City and was here trying to find work, Reile said.

Usually, train engineers look for people on the tracks, running or making any unusual moves as they enter a train station, in case they need to apply the emergency brake, and the engineer did not see Flores, Reile said.

Initial reports said that Flores' arm was "nearly severed," and that he was taken to a hospital. Reile said she did not have an update on Flores' condition, and Morton Grove police referred Patch to Metra, saying they were handling the investigation.
