Man Nudges Wallet Closer, Then Takes It

Police have video of the man and his car's license plates from the store where the theft took place. Information is supplied by the Niles Police Department. An arrest is merely an accusation, not a conviction.

A 36-year-old employee of a grocery store in the 5700 block of Touhy reported Tuesday at about 4:40 p.m. that he had been shopping in the store and left his wallet on one of the checkout counters. He said it contained $500 cash and credit cards, according to police.

A manager found surveillance video of that checkout counter, which shows the next customer in line behind the victim was a balding man in his mid to late 50s with brown/gray hair, glasses and a mustache. The video shows the man pushing the wallet towards his bag of groceries during the checkout process, then appearing to palm the wallet as he picks up his bag of groceries, police said.
